Sunny But Cold Group Ride

Image
https://ift.tt/U8bfr0y Yesterday my group when out to Redwood Retreat Road and back, one of my favorite rides. It was cold by our standards, but fortunately I got the layering right so was pretty comfy. The sun came out after the first half hour and it was beautiful, but still nippy on the shady parts of RRR. We had a really large group today of 19 people. I especially enjoyed a warm lunch afterwards. The vineyards at the end of Paradise Valley

Riding Between Storms

https://ift.tt/hkFC50K Our Winter rains showed up big time last Thursday. It rained all day so I rode indoors on my trainer. This was surprisingly relaxing because I treated at as a meditation, riding with my eyes closed, which is OK on a trainer. Since then the rain was on and off and I sneaked in outdoor rides as I could with my rain gear, which works fine if it’s only lightly raining. I try to avoid heavier rain as it can hurt get pelted in the face when you’re riding at a decent clip. I was hoping for good weather last Tuesday as I was leading our group ride, pinch-hitting for our normal leader Kris while she’s on travel. We lucked out and had a pretty nice day for the ride, which went up in the hills Southwest of Morgan Hill and down to the sports complex in Gilroy on some good bike paths before returning. We got sprinkled on a bit on the way back but not too badly. Then Wednesday it was cloudy with no rain so I was able to get a longer and harder ride in. Yesterday we had some s...

Open Heart

https://ift.tt/dpaRcWh http://www.Amazon.com/books This is the title of an inspiring autobiographical book by Dr. Akil Taher. He was a successful MD as he entered his 60s when his sedentary lifestyle and poor diet led him to need angioplasty and stents in his coronary arteries. This was not a sufficient wake-up call for a lifestyle change, so he required coronary bypass surgery a bit over a year later. The book chronicles the remarkable transformation he went through after that. Physical activities included marathons, triathlons, and climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. The change in his diet was equally impressive, eventually leading him to whole-food plant-based nutrition. His state of mind has undergone an equal transformation, and now in his 70s Dr. Taher is healthier and happier than ever. I highly recommend this book for inspiration, especially for older adults who need to hear the message that it is never too late.

More Riding in Nice Weather Till the Rains Came

https://ift.tt/EDnacSI We’ve had a lot more nice late fall weather which I’ve been loving riding in. Then yesterday it rained pretty heavily so I had my first rainy ride of the season for about 90 minutes. My rain gear held up fine and my hiking boots did not soak through so I enjoyed that ride too. Now that rainy season has arrived I will have to be flexible with my riding because multi-hour rides are not fun on rainy days.
